빌립보서를 어떻게 읽을 것인가
기쁨, 기쁨, 그리고 더 많은 기쁨! 이것은 동화 이야기 속의 그 불가능한 “그 후로 오랫동안 행복하게 살았습니다”라는 얘기가 아니다. 바울이 말하는 것은 신자라면 누구나 경험 할 수 있는 현재적인 실제 이야기이다! 그는 우리가 예수님 안에서 갖고있는 기쁨을 빼앗아 갈 수 있는 것은 아무것도 없다고 자신 있게 주장한다. 심지어 고통스러운 갈등 가운데 있을 때 조차 삶 속에 기쁨이 있으며 겸손한 영으로 섬길 때 기쁨이 있고, 예수님을 알고 그의 비교할 수 없는 축복을 알릴 때 기쁨이 있고 자족과 감사 가운데서 걸어갈 때 기쁨이 있다.
바울은 빌립보에 사는 사랑하는 친구들과 후원자들에게 보낸 이 기쁨으로 가득한 감사 편지의 중심에 그의 삶을 이끌어가는 열망을 나눈다. 이미 20년 이상 그리스도를 섬겨왔는데도 바울은 “내가 그리스도와 ...알려하여 ” (빌 3:10)라고 열정적으로 선언한다. 바울은 하나님을 향한 채워질 수 없는 갈으로 하나님과 더욱 더 친밀해지기를 갈망했으며 , 이 갈망이 모든 신자의 마음에도 가득 차기를 바랬다.
빌립보서의 많은 보물들 중에, 성경에서도 가장 유명한 예수님께 하는 찬양 시편 중 하나를 발견할 것이고 (빌 2:5-11), 예수님과의 관계에 비하면 종교 활동들은 헛되다는 것을 알게 되며 (빌 3:4-11), 하나님의 방법을 따라 당신의 생각을 다시 형성하는데 도움이 되는 실제적인 도구들을 얻게 될 것이다 (빌 4:4-9).
How to read Philippians
Joy, joy, and more joy! It’s not the impossible “happily ever after” of your favorite fairy tale; Paul describes the current reality every believer can experience! He confidently claims that nothing can stamp out the joy we have in Jesus! There is joy in living even in the midst of painful conflicts; there is joy in serving in a spirit of humility; there is joy in knowing Jesus and in making him and his incomparable blessings known; and there is joy when we walk in contentment and gratitude.
At the heart of this joy-filled, thank-you letter to his dear friends and supporters in Philippi, Paul shares the driving ambition of his life. Even after more than two decades of Christian service, Paul passionately declares, “I want to know Christ” (Php 3:10). In his insatiable hunger for God, Paul yearned for an ever-growing intimacy with him, a desire he hoped would fill the heart of every believer.
Among many gems, you’ll find one of the Bible’s most prominent psalms of praise to Jesus (Php 2:5-11); you’ll see the futility of religious activity compared to a relationship with Jesus (Php 3:4-11); and you’ll gain practical tools to help reshape your thinking according to God’s ways (Php 4:4-9).

The apostle Paul wrote it about ad 60–62, while under house arrest in Rome where he was awaiting trial on an appeal to the Roman emperor Nero.

Believers in the city of Philippi, located in northeastern Greece. It lay ten miles inland from the modern port city of Kavalla.

무엇이 이 편지를 쓰게 했나?
로마의 식민지인 빌립보는 바울이 주후 50년경 유럽 땅에 첫 교회를 세운 곳이었다 (행16:11-40). 바울이 계속 사역을 하는 동안 이 교회는 때때로 바울에게 재정 지원을 보냈는데 이런 교회는 몇 되지 않았다 (빌 4:15). 바울은 재판을 기다리는 동안 생활비 지원을 위한 후원금을 보내 준 빌립보 교인들에게 감사를 전하기 원했다 (빌 4:10-18). 바울은 또한 거짓 선생들을 멀리하도록 주의를 주고 교인들 간에는 더욱 견고한 화합을 이루도록 권고 했다.
What led to the writing of this letter?
The Roman colony of Philippi was where Paul planted the first church on European soil (Act 16:11-40), probably around ad 50. When Paul moved on, the church occasionally sent him financial aid, one of the few churches to do so (Php 4:15). Paul wanted to thank the Philippians for sending him money to help defray his living expenses as he awaited trial (Php 4:10-18). Paul also wanted to warn them against false teachers and urge them to greater unity among themselves.
