“「13」 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem.
「14」 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.
「15」 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them;
「16」 but they were kept from recognizing him.
「17」 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?” They stood still, their faces downcast.
「18」 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
「19」 “What things?” he asked. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.
「20」 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him;
「21」 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place.
「22」 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning
「23」 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive.”

「14」 They were deep in conversation, going over all these things that had happened.
「15」 In the middle of their talk and questions, Jesus came up and walked along with them.
「16」 But they were not able to recognize who he was.
「17」 He asked, "What's this you're discussing so intently as you walk along?" They just stood there, long-faced, like they had lost their best friend.
「18」 Then one of them, his name was Cleopas, said, "Are you the only one in Jerusalem who hasn't heard what's happened during the last few days?"
「19」 He said, "What has happened?" They said, "The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene. He was a man of God, a prophet, dynamic in work and word, blessed by both God and all the people.
「20」 Then our high priests and leaders betrayed him, got him sentenced to death, and crucified him.
「21」 And we had our hopes up that he was the One, the One about to deliver Israel. And it is now the third day since it happened.
「22」 But now some of our women have completely confused us. Early this morning they were at the tomb
「23」 and couldn't find his body. They came back with the story that they had seen a vision of angels who said he was alive.”

「20」 그런데 우리의 대제사장들과 지도자들이 그를 넘겨주어서, 사형선고를 받게 하고, 십자가에 못박아 죽였습니다.
「21」 우리는 그분이야말로 이스라엘을 구원하실 분이라는 것을 알고서, 그분에게 소망을 걸고 있었던 것입니다. 그뿐만 아니라, 그런 일이 있은 지 벌써 사흘이 되었는데,
「22」 우리 가운데서 몇몇 여자가 우리를 놀라게 하였습니다. 그들은 새벽에 무덤에 갔다가,
「23」 그의 시신을 찾지 못하고 돌아와서 하는 말이, 천사들의 환상을 보았다는 것입니다. 천사들이 예수가 살아 계신다고 말했다는 것입니다.”

사실과 추론
제자들이 언급한 모든 사건은 사실이었지만 그 사건으로 부터 그들이 추론한 내용들은 틀렸고, 그 추론으로 인해서 제자들은 영적으로 낙심에 빠졌습니다.
영적으로 낙심에 빠지지 않도록 주의해야 합니다. 만일 마음이 우울하거나 무거워지면 자신에게 문제가 있는 것이지, 하나님을 탓하거나 다른 사람을 탓할 일이 아닙니다.
낙심의 이유
낙심은 죄의 정욕에서 발생합니다. 낙심은 죄의 정욕을 만족시켰을 때 혹은 만족시키지 못했을 때 옵니다. 정욕이란, 내가 원하는 것을 당장 취하려는 성향입니다. 영적인 측면에서의 정욕은 기도에 응답하시는 하나님을 구하기보다 당장 기도 응답만을 요구하는 것입니다.
하나님께 뭔가를 기대하고 있습니까? 응답을 기다린지 오늘이 벌써 삼일째입니까? 그럼에도 하나님께서는 아무것도 행하지 않으셨습니까? 그러면 우리는 낙심하고 하나님을 원망하는 것이 당연하다고 생각합니다. 그러나 하나님께서 내 기도에 응답하셔야 한다는 고집은 정도에서 벗어난 것입니다.
기도의 의미는 기도의 응답이 아니라 하나님을 붙드는 것입니다. 낙심의 상태에서는 몸이 평안할 수 없습니다. 낙심은 영적으로 병든 증거입니다. 낙심의 책임은 언제나 자신에게 있습니다.
주님을 경험하는 현장
신자는 주변의 평범한 일들과 사람들 가운데 하나님이 계시다는 사실을 계속 경험해야 합니다. 가까이 있는 책임을 다할 때 신자는 주님을 보게 될 것입니다. 가장 놀라운 하나님의 계시는 예수 그리스도의 신성이 평범한 것들속에서 나타난다는 점입니다.
