“「1」 Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not the result of my work in the Lord?
「2」 Even though I may not be an apostle to others, surely I am to you! For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.
「3」 This is my defense to those who sit in judgment on me.
「4」 Don’t we have the right to food and drink?
「5」 Don’t we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas*? / *That is, Peter
「6」 Or is it only I and Barnabas who lack the right to not work for a living?
「7」 Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat its grapes? Who tends a flock and does not drink the milk?

「10」 Surely he says this for us, doesn’t he? Yes, this was written for us, because whoever plows and threshes should be able to do so in the hope of sharing in the harvest.
「11」 If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you?
「12」 If others have this right of support from you, shouldn’t we have it all the more? But we did not use this right. On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ.
「13」 Don’t you know that those who serve in the temple get their food from the temple, and that those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar?
「14」 In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.
「15」 But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me, for I would rather die than allow anyone to deprive me of this boast.
「16」 For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!
「17」 If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.
「18」 What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not make full use of my rights as a preacher of the gospel.
「19」 Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.”

“「1」 And don't tell me that I have no authority to write like this. I'm perfectly free to do this--isn't that obvious? Haven't I been given a job to do? Wasn't I commissioned to this work in a face-to-face meeting with Jesus, our Master? Aren't you yourselves proof of the good work that I've done for the Master?
「2」 Even if no one else admits the authority of my commission, you can't deny it. Why, my work with you is living proof of my authority!
「3」 I'm not shy in standing up to my critics.
「4」 We who are on missionary assignments for God have a right to decent accommodations,
「5」 and we have a right to support for us and our families. You don't seem to have raised questions with the other apostles and our Master's brothers and Peter in these matters.
「6」 So, why me? Is it just Barnabas and I who have to go it alone and pay our own way?
「7」 Are soldiers self-employed? Are gardeners forbidden to eat vegetables from their own gardens? Don't milkmaids get to drink their fill from the pail?
「8」 I'm not just sounding off because I'm irritated. This is all written in the scriptural law.
「9」 Moses wrote, "Don't muzzle an ox to keep it from eating the grain when it's threshing." Do you think Moses' primary concern was the care of farm animals?
「10」 Don't you think his concern extends to us? Of course. Farmers plow and thresh expecting something when the crop comes in.
「11」 So if we have planted spiritual seed among you, is it out of line to expect a meal or two from you?
「12」 Others demand plenty from you in these ways. Don't we who have never demanded deserve even more? But we're not going to start demanding now what we've always had a perfect right to. Our decision all along has been to put up with anything rather than to get in the way or detract from the Message of Christ.
「13」 All I'm concerned with right now is that you not use our decision to take advantage of others, depriving them of what is rightly theirs. You know, don't you, that it's always been taken for granted that those who work in the Temple live off the proceeds of the Temple, and that those who offer sacrifices at the altar eat their meals from what has been sacrificed?
「14」 Along the same lines, the Master directed that those who spread the Message be supported by those who believe the Message.
「15」 Still, I want it made clear that I've never gotten anything out of this for myself, and that I'm not writing now to get something. I'd rather die than give anyone ammunition to discredit me or impugn my motives.
「16」 If I proclaim the Message, it's not to get something out of it for myself. I'm compelled to do it, and doomed if I don't!
「17」 If this was my own idea of just another way to make a living, I'd expect some pay. But since it's not my idea but something solemnly entrusted to me, why would I expect to get paid?
「18」 So am I getting anything out of it? Yes, as a matter of fact： the pleasure of proclaiming the Message at no cost to you. You don't even have to pay my expenses!
「19」 Even though I am free of the demands and expectations of everyone, I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people：”

「10」 그렇지 않으면, 우리 모두를 위하여 말씀하신 것입니까? 그것은 우리를 위하여 하신 말씀입니다. 밭을 가는 사람은 마땅히 희망을 가지고서 밭을 갈고, 타작을 하는 사람은 한 몫을 얻으리라는 희망을 가지고 그 일을 합니다.
「11」 우리가 여러분에게 영적인 것으로 씨를 뿌렸으면, 여러분에게서 물질적인 것으로 거둔다고 해서, 그것이 지나친 일이겠습니까?
「12」 다른 사람들이 여러분에게 이런 권리를 가졌다면, 하물며 우리는 더욱 그러하지 않겠습니까? 그러나 우리는 이런 권리를 쓰지 않았습니다. 우리는 그리스도의 복음을 전하는 일에 지장을 주지 않도록, 모든 것을 참습니다.

「16」 내가 복음을 전할지라도, 그것이 나에게 자랑거리가 될 수 없습니다. 나는 어쩔 수 없이 그것을 해야만 합니다. 내가 복음을 전하지 않으면, 나에게 화가 미칠 것입니다.
「17」 내가 자진해서 이 일을 하면 삯을 받을 것입니다. 그러나 내가 마지못해서 하면, 직무를 따라 한 것입니다.

하나님의 부르심을 거부하지 않도록 조심하세요. 구원받은 사람은 누구나 구원의 사실을 증거하도록 부름을 받습니다. 그러나 이것은 설교하라는 부르심과 같은 것은 아니며, 설교에 사용할 수 있는 예화일 뿐입니다. 이 구절에서 바울은 복음을 전하라는 부름의 강력한 힘으로 인해 자신에게 생긴 심적부담을 언급하고 있습니다.
예수 복음을 전하는 예수의 종
예수 그리스도의 종들은 자신들이 무엇을 할 것이며 어디로 갈 것인가에 대해 스스로 결정할 수 없습니다. 하나님은 그리스도의 종들을 자신을 기쁘시게 하기 위해 ‘찢겨진 빵과 부어지는 포도주’처럼 만드십니다.
"복음을 위해 구별된다는 것”은 하나님의 부르심을 들을 수 있다는 것을 의미합니다(로마서 1:1). 누군가가 그 부르심을 듣기 시작하면 그리스도의 이름에 합당한 고난이 생겨납니다. - 모든 야망이 꺽이며, 인생의 욕망이 지워지기 시작하며, 외적인 자랑이 철저하게 제거됩니다. 그리하여 오직 “복음을 위해 구별되었다”는 것만 남게 됩니다.
