Title: "Why did Jesus give Eucharist?(2)"

(Revelaton 3:20 / Luke 22:19-21)

The reason Jesus gave the Last Supper to his disciples was to show them that God's promises are sure to come true, no matter how close death may be. Jesus knew that death was coming for him, but he gave his last sacrament to show us that death is not the end, but rather the doorway to the eternal kingdom of God. It's not just the bread and cup that Jesus gives, but the thanksgiving that opens the door to new hope. As a recipient of Jesus' sacraments, the believer lives a sacramental life.

1. The Eucharist is grace, not reward.

Only those who have been successful in their faith receive the Eucharist as a reward. In fact, there were "betrayers" at Jesus' table; they received many gifts from the Lord, but there were those who betrayed Jesus. Now we are invited to receive the Eucharist as guests of God, but we realize that we are there as potential betrayers. The Eucharist is not a reward for doing the right thing as a Christian; it is a place of honest repentance for ourselvesa. We betray the Lord through self-centeredness, pride, indifference, sloth, self-obsession, and so on, and we live our lives unread, lifeless, and lethargic. The sacraments become the necessary food for such people and make them live again. Faith and the Eucharist are free gifts, and those who are invited to the Eucharist are welcomed by the host, their sins forgiven and fed, and their souls and lives revitalized.

"Even the poor will be able to toast and be filled. Everyone who seeks the Lord will praise the Lord."

2. Experience the transforming Holy Spirit.

When Jesus gives His flesh and blood and dies, He takes our sins upon Himself and saves us. Our sins are paid for, we are saved, and we are set on a path of holiness and glorification (redemption & salvation : justification - sanctification - glorification)

While the sacraments begin with salvation, they are given to us as a place of creation and transformation. God created us because of His eternal desire, His longing for us (His desire to be our companion). God's creation is not so that He can supplement His needs through us; rather, it is so that God can give of Himself (God the Giver) more and more, over and over again, in an overflowing divine generosity.

And so, through the Holy Spirit, God continues to create and transform. First, the Holy Spirit, as the Spirit of God the Father, made Jesus, the Son, alive. Next, the Holy Spirit transforms and enlivens us as we participate in the sacraments. In the Eucharist, we rely on the Holy Spirit of God the Father. "May the Holy Spirit come upon the bread and cup which we receive." This is where the real transformation happens. By the Holy Spirit, the bread and cup of the Eucharist are transformed in a wonderful and mysterious way. Even more amazingly, the Holy Spirit transforms us. The transforming Holy Spirit continues to transform us so that we receive Jesus, the gift of God, the bread and cup of life and salvation, deeply into our whole lives, and so that we can go out into the world with the gift (Jesus) we have been given. He helps us to know what we were made for and to live out that purpose.

3. and be present to the source of life, drinking from the everlasting fountain of life.

The center of our faith is to drink from the fountain of life that God gives us, in all our lives and in all our places in life. The central place is the Eucharist. "The fountain of life is in the Lord. We are illuminated by your light and see a bright future." (Psalm 36:9) Living water overflows from a spring and flows through a small stream, then ripples into a great river and eventually flows to the ocean. Wherever it passes, the land is healed and life grows. In the same way, to receive the sacraments is to encounter the fountain of life, and it is a blessed life to walk with the Lord and to continue on that path with companions who have also experienced the fountain of life through the sacraments. The path is like seeing a joyful open future, and the goal of life is clear. May you be one of the faithful who never stray from the path and live it fully.

제목: “예수님이 성찬을 주신 이유(2)” (계 3:20, 눅 22:19-21)

예수님이 최후의 만찬을 제자들에게 주신 이유는 하나님의 약속은 아무리 죽음의 문턱이 가까이에 있을 지라도 반드시 이루어 진다는 것을 알려주시기 위함입니다. 예수님은 자신에게 죽음이 곧 닥쳐올 것을 아셨지만, 그 죽음이 끝이 아니라 오히려 영원한 하나님 나라를 향한 문이 된다는 것을 알려주시기 위해 마지막 성찬을 주십니다. 예수님이 주신 성찬의 떡과 잔만이 아니라 성찬의 감사는 새로운 희망의 문을 여는 성사가 됩니다. 예수님의 성찬을 받는 신자는 성사적인 삶으로 모든 일을 감당하게 됩니다.

1. 성찬례는 보상이 아니라 은혜이다.

신앙적으로 성공했다고 하는 자들만이 보답을 받는다는 의미로 성찬을 받는 것이 아닙니다. 사실, 예수님의 성찬의 자리에는 '배신자'가 있었습니다. 그들은 주님께로 부터 많은 선물을 받았지만, 예수를 배신하는 사람들이 그 자리에 있었습니다. 지금 우리도 하나님의 손님으로 초대받아 성찬을 받지만, 우리도 잠재적인 배신자로 그 자리에 있음을 깨닫게 됩니다. 성찬례는 그리스도인으로서 바른 행동을 실천해서 받는 보상이 아니라라는 것입니다. 성찬의 자리는 자기 자신에 대한 정직한 회개를 하는 자리입니다. 우리는 자기 중심성, 교만, 무심함, 나태함, 자기 집착 등등으로 주님을 배반하고, 삶의 목적을 읽고, 생기를 잃고, 무기력하게 살아갑니다. 성찬은 그러한 자에게 꼭 필요한 음식이 되어 다시 살게 합니다. 신앙과 성찬은 값없는 선물입니다. 그리하여 성찬에 초대받은 사람들은 주인의 환영을 받으며 죄 용서받고 베불리 먹고, 영혼과 삶에 생기를 경험합니다.

“가난한 사람들도 축배를 들고, 배불리 먹을 수 있을 것이다. 주님을 찾는 사람은 누구나 주님을 찬양할 것이다.”

2. 변혁하시는 성령님을 경험한다.

예수님께서 자신의 살과 피를 주시고 죽으시면서 우리의 죄를 대신 담당하시고, 우리를 구원하십니다. 우리 죄는 대속되고, 우리는 구원받습니다. 그리하여 우리는 거룩한 길과 영화로운 길로 나아가게 됩니다 (redemption & salvation : justification - sanctification - glorification)

성찬은 구원과 관련된 것으로 시작하지만, 성찬은 창조와 변혁의 자리로 우리에게 주어집니다. 하나님께서 우리를 창조하신 이유는 그분의 영원한 열망, 즉 우리를 원하시는 갈망(우리의 동료가 되기를 원하시는 갈망) 때문입니다. 하나님의 창조는 우리를 통해 그분의 필요를 보충하기 위해서가 아닙니다. 오히려 하나님이 자신(God the Giver)을 더욱더, 계속, 넘치도록 나누어 주시기 위해서입니다. (overflowing divine generiosity)

그리하여 하나님은 성령님을 통해서 계속된 창조와 변혁을 이루십니다. 먼저, 성령님은 하나님 아버지의 영으로서, 아들이신 예수를 살게(alive)하셨습니다. 다음으로 성령님은 성찬에 참여하는 우리를 변화시키시고 생기를 불어 넣어 주십니다. 성찬례에서 우리는 하나님 아버지의 성령을 의지합니다. "우리가 받는 떡과 잔 위에 성령이 임하길 기도합니다." 이때 진정한 변혁이 일어납니다. 성령에 의해 성찬례의 떡과 잔은 놀랍고 신비롭게 변합니다. 더 놀라운 것은 성령님은 우리들을 변화시킵니다. 변혁을 이루시는 성령님은 우리가 하나님의 선물이시고 생명이시고 구원의 떡과 잔이신 예수를 우리의 삶 전체에 깊이 깊이 받아들이도록 계속해서 우리를 변화시킵니다. 그리하여 우리가 받은 선물(예수)을 가지고 세상으로 나갈 수 있도록 우리를 변화시킵니다. 우리를 지으신 목적이 무엇인지 알게 하시고, 그 목적대로 살게 하십니다.

3. 생명의 샘앞에서 영원한 샘물을 마시며 산다.

신앙의 중심은 우리의 모든 삶의 터전과 삶의 자리들에서, 하나님이 주시는 생명의 샘물을 마시는 것입니다. 그 핵심의 자리가 성찬례입니다. “생명의 샘이 주님께 있습니다. 우리는 주님의 빛을 받아 환히 열린 미래를 봅니다.” (시 36:9) 샘에서 생수가 넘쳐나서 작은 시내를 통해 흐르고, 그 물은 물결을 이루어 큰 강을 지나 대양으로 흐르게 됩니다. 그 물이 지나가는 곳마다 땅이 치유되고 생명이 자라게 됩니다. 이처럼, 성찬을 받는 것은 생명의 샘을 만나는 것입니다. 그리하여 주님과 동행하고, 함께 성찬을 통해 생명의 샘물을 경험한 동료들과 그 길을 계속 가는 것이 복된 인생입니다. 그 길은 환희 열린 미래를 보는 것과 같아서 삶의 목표가 분명합니다. 길을 잃지 않고 그 길을 온전하게 살아가는 신자들이 되시길 축원합니다.

1.The Eucharist is grace, not reward.

성찬례는 보상이 아니라 은혜이다.

1-1. 예수님의 성찬의 자리에는 '배신자'가 있었습니다. 주님의 선물(환영)을 받았지만, 예수를 배신하는 사람이 그 자리에 있었습니다.

1-2. 예수님은 식탁에 둘러앉은 모두를 바라보며 두어 시간안에 그들이 자기를 부인할 것이라고 경고하신다.

1-3. 우리는 하나님의 손님으로 그 자리에 있습니다.(환영, 감사, 존재의 기쁨) 그러나, 우리는 또한 잠재적인 배신자로 그 자리에 있습니다.

1-4. 우리도 받은 선물을 잊어버리고 배반할 가능성이 있음을 인정하라는 깨우침을 줍니다. >>> 나는 절대 예수를 배반하지 않아. 았었어. 그런 일은 없어 .. 라고 하지 맙시다.

1-5. 이런 깨우침은 "성찬례는 그리스도인이 바른 행동을 실천해서 받는 보상이 아님"을 알려줍니다.

1-6. 자기 자신에 대한 정직한 회개의 자리가 성찬례의 자리입니다.

- >>> 자기 중심성, 교만, 무심함, 나태함, 자기 집착 등등으로 배반하고, 생기를 잃고, 무기력하게 살아가는 자에게 꼭 필요한 음식이 됩니다.

1-7. 성찬례는 값없는 선물입니다. 의인은 베불리 먹는다. 영혼과 삶에 생기가 임하게 될 것입니다.

-- (시 22:26) “가난한 사람들도 "여러분들의 마음이 늘 유쾌하길 빕니다!" 하면서 축배를 들고, 배불리 먹을 수 있을 것이다. 주님을 찾는 사람은 누구나 주님을 찬양할 것이다.”

1-1. There was a "betrayer" at Jesus' table. There was someone there who had received the Lord's gift (welcome), but was betraying Jesus.

1-2. Jesus looks at everyone around the table and warns them that within a couple of hours they will deny him.

1-3. We are there as God's guests (welcome, grateful, joyful to be there), but we are also there as potential betrayers.

1-4. we are reminded to recognize that we, too, have the potential to forget and betray the gift we have been given: >>> I would never betray Jesus, I never did, it never happened... Let's not say....

1-5. This reminder reminds us that "the Eucharist is not a reward for good behavior."

1-6. The Eucharist is the seat of honest repentance of self.

- >>> It is essential food for those who are betrayed, lifeless, and lethargic by self-centeredness, pride, indifference, sloth, self-obsession, etc.

1-7. The Eucharist is a free gift. The righteous eat of it abundantly. It will revive the soul and life.

-- (Psalm 22:26) "Even the poor will be able to eat to their fill, saying, "May your hearts always be cheerful!" Everyone who seeks the Lord will praise the Lord."

2. Experience the transforming Holy Spirit and be present to the source of life. 
변혁하시는 성령님을 경험한다.

2-1. 성찬례를 우리에게 창조의 삶을 허락하십니다.(주십니다.)

2-2. 예수님께서 죽으시고 자신의 살과 피를 주시며 우리의 죄를 대신 담당하시고, 우리를 구원하십니다. (redemption / salvation : justification - sanctification - glorification)

2-3. 성찬은 구원과 관련된 것입니다. 그러나 우리는 좀더 가야합니다. 성찬은 창조와 변화/변혁의 자리입니다.

2-4. 하나님께서 우리를 창조하셨습니다. 그 이유는?

그 이유는 그분의 영원한 열망, 즉 우리를 원하시는 갈망 때문입니다.

(갈망: the eternal 'desire' for our company :우리를 그분의 동료/공동체/가족으로 삼기 위해서 입니다.)

2-5. 우리를 만드시고, 우리를 통해 그분의 필요를 보충하기 위해서가 아닙니다. 오히려 하나님이 자신(God the Giver)을 더욱더 / 계속 / 넘치도록 나누어 주시기 위해서입니다. (overflowing divine generiosity)

2-6. 성령님은 하나님 아버지의 영입니다. 성령은 하나님의 살아있는 영으로 예수를 살게(alive)하셨습니다

2-7. 예수님께서 기도를 가르쳐 주셨습니다. "하늘에 계신 우리 아버지여 ..." 우리가 이렇게 기도할 때, 성령님은 우리에게 일하십니다.

2-8. 성찬례에서 우리는 하나님 아버지의 성령을 의지합니다. "우리가 받는 떡과 잔 위에 성령이 임하길 기도합니다" 이때 진정한 변화/변혁이 일어납니다.

2-9. 성찬례에서 무엇이 변합니까? 그것은 떡과 포도즙이 아니라 그것을 받는 우리들입니다.

2-10. 우리가 받은 선물을 가지고 세상으로 나갈 수 있도록 우리를 변화시키도록 성령님께 간구합니다. 하나님께서 지으신 그 목적대로 사는 삶을 살게 하시길 기도합시다.

2-11. 하나님께서 생기를 주십니다.

(겔 37:10) “그래서 내가 명을 받은 대로 대언하였더니, *생기가 그들 속으로 들어갔고, 그래서 그들이 곧 살아나 제 발로 일어나서 서는데, 엄청나게 큰 군대였다. / ('바람' 또는 '영')”

2-1. In the Eucharist, God grants us life in creation (gives).

2-2. Jesus died and gave his flesh and blood to pay for our sins and save us. (redemption / salvation: justification - sanctification - glorification)

2-3. sacraments are related to salvation, but we need to go further. The sacraments are a place of creation and transformation/transformation.

2-4. God created us, why?

Because of His eternal desire, His longing for us.

(Longing: the eternal 'desire' for our company: to make us His co-workers/community/family).

2-5. not in order to make us, and through us to supplement His needs, but rather in order for God the Giver to give more/continue/overflowing of Himself. (overflowing divine generosity)

2-6. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God the Father. The Holy Spirit is the living Spirit of God who made Jesus alive (alive)

2-7. Jesus taught us to pray: "Our Father in heaven..." When we pray this way, the Holy Spirit works in us.

2-8. In the Eucharist, we rely on the Holy Spirit of God the Father. "May the Holy Spirit come upon the bread and cup we receive." This is when real change/transformation happens.

2-9. What changes in the Eucharist? It is not the bread and wine, but us who receive it.

2-10. We ask the Holy Spirit to transform us so that we can go out into the world with the gifts we have received. Ask him to help us live the lives we were created to live.

2-11. God gives life.

(Ezek. 37:10) "So I spoke as I was commanded, *and life went into them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, a very great army, / ('wind' or 'spirit')."

3. Hear the Word, discover yourself, and be renewed by the Holy Spirit.
말씀을 듣고, 성령님으로 새롭게 된다.

3-1. 나 자신을 바꾸려고 씨름할 때, 나의 주변상황과 경험을 바꾸려고 씨름할 때, 나를 위해서 일하시는 하나님, God the Giver가 나를 위해서 지금 일하고 계심을 계속 발견하는 것이 삶의 핵심입니다.

3-2. 우리는 이러한 경험을 성찬례를 통해서 하게 됩니다.

3-3. 생명의 중심, 우리 하나님이 주시는 생명입니다. 성찬례에서 우리는 그 중심을 경험하고, 세상의 끝과 완성을 보게 됩니다.

(시 36:9) “생명의 샘이 주님께 있습니다. 우리는 주님의 빛을 받아 환히 열린 미래를 봅니다.”

(Ps 36:9) “For with you(God the Giver) is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.”

3-4. 성찬례 안에서 우리가 마실 물을 얻게 되니, 성찬례는 하나님이 주신는 그 샘이 됩니다.

3-1. as I struggle to change myself, as I struggle to change my circumstances and experiences, the key to life is to continually discover that God, God the Giver, is at work for me now.

3-2. We experience this through the Eucharist.

3-3. The center of life is the life that our God gives. In the Eucharist we experience that center, and we see the end and completion of the world.

(Psalm 36:9) "The fountain of life is in the Lord. We are illuminated by the light of the Lord and see a bright future."

(Ps 36:9) "For with you (God the Giver) is the fountain of life; in your light we see light."

3-4. In the Eucharist we receive water to drink, and the Eucharist becomes that fountain of life from God.
